The Indian Navy has been using its fleet of VideoRay Mission Specialist Defenders to search for and recover victims of a mine flood in December 2018. Fifteen miners perished inside the illegal coal mine, called a rat-hole, in Meghalaya, India. So far, one victim has been recovered. The search is still ongoing, with water in the mines causing significant delays to the recovery process.
One of the members of the Indian Navy commented on their use of VideoRay ROV technology, saying, “Great job with the Defender…we are using it to rescue miners trapped in a mine in a rat hole…at a depth of more than 50 meters where our divers cannot reach.”
