Integrated Underwater Services used the Dye Injector when a Customer from Pacific County, Washington, requested help to find a leaking valve in a dam.

Troy Gessner began his career underwater, working in the diving and subsea construction industry for 25+ years. He worked as a Diver, Supervisor, and SME for global clients focusing on ROV and deep-water projects.

Troy’s company, Integrated Underwater Services, LLC, is focused on safety and quality to help clients with underwater and floating assets find a better way to manage maintenance, inspection, and repairs. Looking ahead to new technologies, or creating them, Troy and the IUS Team have developed and are using their new Dye Injector.

Integrated Underwater Services used the Dye Injector when a Customer from Pacific County, Washington, requested help to find a leaking valve in a dam. The IUS Team injected dye into various locations to monitor the dye’s path to the treatment plant. The Dye Injector prototype was fitted onto a VideoRay PRO 4 ROV, and Troy is proud to say the prototype Dye Injector lived up to expectations.

“Our client was very happy with this solution. They have been drawing water from a valve they thought was sealed for years, and this clearly showed it was drawing water from the bottom of the reservoir into the plant. We have already repaired one intake at this location using divers, and we are discussing more work to seal off the intake valve seen in the dye injection video. In addition, we will incorporate the PRO 4 into our diving projects to reduce risk to divers by performing site assessments in any suspected Delta P environment”.

As Troy noted, the client now has accurate data to plan long-term permanent repairs to the water inlet structure at the dam. “We are working with them to implement safe, cost-effective solutions using our PRO 4 ROV and diving capabilities to maximize safety and value for their infrastructure funding resources. This project continued our commitment to the use of ROV technology to keep divers out of high-risk environments whenever possible. The fact that we can save our clients’ money in the process makes our services more attractive, especially for smaller municipalities.”
